Education is life and we are living it!

At Little Hearts Academy we believe each child is precious, loved, valuable, and important.

Our goal is to connect with each little heart first and the important academics then follow easily. We pull from both Montessori and Waldorf learning styles and believe that we learn better when we are playing therefore our school is play-based and very hands on. Children have the freedom to move about the space much of the day and sitting with bottoms on chairs is only required when eating (so we don’t choke!). Other than that, when doing an activity or lesson at our table, our children know they are welcome to stand or kneel or wiggle as much as they need, which in turn lets their hands and minds focus on the learning in front of them.

While technology plays a role in our lives for sure, we believe that there is great benefit in limiting screens, etc while our children are young, therefore we do not have such things in our school. The exceptions being a small mp3 player in our calm corner with 5-10 song options and a Christmas movie/pajama day the last day before Christmas break.

We believe that much learning happens through playing outdoors, therefore we have a 45 minute recess during the morning and will also be outside playing before pick up at the end of the day whenever the weather permits.

We have three expectations in our room:

1) Stick together. We are a team and we stick together - children and adults. We work through problems together. We help each other out.

2) No hurts. No hurts with our body or our words to each other or oursevles.

3) Have fun! When we stick together and have no hurts we are free to have so much fun learning every time we’re together!
